Mother Goose

Mother Goose Poster

This years Pantomime was excellent, all the kids (and adults) cheered and boo-ed in the right places, with up beat music and an excellent production by Mark and the crew. The show was a great success with a sell out on the Friday night. Thanks to all the people involved and also the audiences for their support.

A review by Pam Pennock

'With production and choreography in the hands of Mark and Janette Songhurst this year we were ensured of a fresh and innovative panto by Whitkirk Arts Guild. Using fantastic sets created by the excellent stage crew and music directed by Paul Chadwick and Jenny Reynolds it romped along at tremendous pace.

As usual, Michael Walsh's Dame would not have disgraced the London stage and his speciality number, 'Looking for a hero' which I believe came from the film 'Shrek' so known by all the children (but not many adults which didn't matter!) was absolute triumph - as were his costumes, courtesy of Anne Bigland and Sue Newsome. Sue was also hilarious as Priscilla, the goose, winning the audience with her truly comical expressions and gestures. Newcomer Debi Greeves as Billy Goose, displayed a great sense of comedy, her 'Brummie' accent adding to the fun. Anna West was his appealing sweetheart and the forces of good and evil were superbly evinced by Jane Gulliver and Sam Newsome.

Matthew Dean and Keith Rinder completed a dedicated cast and the chorus, especially the children who lit up the stage whenever they appeared, was the best ever. Much talent there to nurture.

No thigh-slapping principle boy or love songs this year but who cared - it was brilliant.

Thank you Arts Guild!
