Robin Hood and Babes In the Wood

Robin Hood Poster

Our Critic writes
One thing you can be sure Whitkirk Arts Guild do superbly well is pantomime and this year's was no exception.

Full houses and totally enchanted, wide eyed children told the whole story. They laughed, they sang, they screamed and when their hero was in trouble they almost cried. The hero in question was Robin Hood, ably played by Paul Chadwick, with attractive Debi Greaves as his Maid Marion.

We also got two for one with 'Babes in the Wood' being incorporated into the' script and what mischievous babes Laura Blackburn and Matthew Jackson turned out to be: But the success of the show I felt was its accent on fun, which it was from beginning to end. Even the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham, so expertly played by Lee Wallace, developed a great rapport with his young audience and Jo Thorpe as Herman the Henchman was hilarious, her timing 'superb and with a touch of Emmerdale's Sam Dingle!.

We can always rely on Michael Walsh to play the Dame with confidence and charm which he did, but sadly, a cold affected his voice and curbed his usual exuberance. Gail Jackson's fairy in bovver boots added to the fun and there were excellent supporting performances from Ken McCormack (Friar Tuck), Nicholas Jackson (Little John) and Sam Newsome (thigh-slapping Will Scarlet) plus, of course a lively chorus.

Sets, especially the forest, were delightful and music by Andrew Brown bang up to date.

Louise Norbury and Laura Wilkinson have proved themselves more than competent producers well supported by an able stage crew.

Best ever!

This years show was fantastic, it had everything, the goody (Robin Hood, who else), the baddy (the Sheriff of Nottingham). The production was brought to life by the two producers, Louise and Laura, who did a brilliant job. This show was that popular we even sold out for two nights of our five night production. A very big thank you must be given to everyone involved with this show.

'This years pantomime is Robin Hood and Babes in the wood. As normal for our pantomimes, it promises to be a great night out, Bookings are already open, See poster for details.'
